Witness an Arctic spectacle as guillemot chicks take their first leap into the wild. A unique opportunity!
Every July, a dramatic and rarely seen moment unfolds on the cliffs of Alkhornet in Trygghamna. In a short time window, Brünnich’s guillemot chicks leave their nests in a high-stakes jump from towering cliffs — guided by their parents and surrounded by airborne predators.
This unique boat-and-hike experience brings you to the heart of one of Svalbard’s most impressive wildlife events, offering extraordinary opportunities for birdwatching and nature photography.
What You’ll Experience
The Guillemot “Jump”
Late July is the moment. From the ledges of Alkhornet, guillemot chicks take their first flight — or fall — to the sea below, accompanied by their parents. This natural drama attracts Arctic foxes and predatory birds hoping to seize a chance before the season ends.
Hike Beneath Alkhornet
After a scenic boat ride in our heated, enclosed RIB, we land on the beach at Trygghamna and take a gentle hike to the base of Alkhornet mountain. From there, we find a prime viewing spot close to the cliffs for quiet observation.
Photography & Wildlife Focus
This tour is perfect for birders, wildlife enthusiasts, and nature photographers. Our guides will position the group for the best vantage points while ensuring minimal disturbance to the wildlife. Food and drinks are provided during the trip to keep you fueled and focused.
