Just outside town, this hike rewards your effort with unbeatable views over Longyearbyen. It’s a favorite among locals for exactly that reason.

Yes, the trail is steep – but after about 350 vertical meters, we reach the top where you can catch your breath and take in the scenery. From here, we often continue even higher onto the plateau, if time and conditions allow. The view opens up to sweeping Arctic landscapes, from the fjord to the surrounding glaciers.

In summer, you might spot little auks circling the cliffs. In winter, snow-covered mountains and the glow of city lights create a magical contrast to the dark. This is a year-round adventure — and hiking through the polar night, lit only by headlamps, is an experience that will stay with you for a long time.

Important Information
  • You must be able to communicate in English to join our excursions.
  • To ensure your safety we may refuse participation if you are not properly dressed for hiking in the conditions
  • Difficulty: 3/5: Suitable for those with average physical fitness. Moderately demanding hike in uneven terrain, with up to 350 meters total elevation gain.

Included in the trip

Dress in layers – it’s the best way to stay warm. Remember: it is better to be too warm than to be too cold. And also – there is no bad weather, just bad clothing!

  • Pick up from your hotel at 10:00 am | Return by 1:30 pm
  • Guide with safety equipment
  • Biscuits, coffee and tea
  • Necessary gear (snowshoes, headlamp etc. if needed)
Bring
  • Warm, waterproof hiking boots (over the ankle) *
  • Wool base layers, windproof jacket and outdoor pants
  • Extra layer of clothing (warm sweater / puffy jacket)
  • Hat, buff and windproof mittens / gloves
  • Backpack (20 – 35 liters)
  • Water Bottle

•8-21 days prior to arrival gives a 50% refund
•0-7 days prior to departure gives no refund

Svalbard is beautiful, but also unpredictable. For your safety, our guides may need to move activities to another day or replace them with a different trip if conditions do not allow the original plan.
In rare cases, if the weather makes it impossible to run an activity at all, it may be cancelled. Should this happen, you will of course receive a full refund for the affected trip.
Your safety and comfort always come first, and we’ll do our best to make sure you still have a memorable experience.
