Dog sledding is a summer activity, as there is no snow for an ordinary sled ride. We will pick you up at your hotel and take you by car to our kennel in Bolterdalen, which is located 12 km from Longyearbyen. Here the dogs wait excitedly, but first it’s time to change: suit, boots and mittens. We then greet the dogs and strap them on. Now we are ready to buckle up for the dogs and start the trip.
On this trip all guests drives a cart in pairs of 3, with 6-7 huskies in front.

The trip goes through beautiful Adventdalen towards Endalen, which offers unique arctic scenery and often lots of reindeer! The dogs pull eagerly and we stop several times along the way to give them water.

The colors of the vegetation in Adventdalen, in contrast to the mountains and the sky, in combination with the clear arctic air, are refreshing to the eye and mind. After the tour, we go to the main kennel and enjoy a hot drink and maybe a brandy in our heated log cabin. Your guide will also show you our youngest generation of Green Dog puppies!

Practical Information

Included in the trip

Dress in layers – it’s the best way to stay warm. Remember: it is better to be too warm than to be too cold. And also – there is no bad weather, just bad clothing!

  • Pick up and return to your hotel
  • Green Dog provides you with a suit, boots, gloves and a hat
  • Coffee/hot chocolate & bisquits – and a visit in the puppycage, after the tour.
Important Information
  • Please choose a hotel in the drop down menu, we do not pick up from private adresses, to avoid delays.
  • Note that the guide will start picking up at 9/10 and therefore he may be a few minutes delaied.
  • No previous mushing experience is needed before the trip.
  • Please note that the local hospital does not recommend pregnant women to participate on dogsled tours.
  • We go in pairs and two guests also take turns in mushing the guideteam. It is the guides own dogs so he is very familiar with them all.
  • The guide will give you a throughout briefing before the trip.
  • We end the trip with a visit at the puppies and coffee, cake and brandy in our cozy log cabin.
  • Barn – Fra 12 år. Children always needs to be accompanied by an adult.
  • We strongly recommend that you wear a woolen inner layer, a mid-layer of fleece/wool or knitted, thick wool socks and hand warmers (can be bought many places in Longyearbyen).
  • Bring a water bottle.
  • Our guides are all very professional and passionated in their daily work with dogs & guests. They are certified and they participate yearly in the SGO (Svalbard Guide Course).
  • This is an activity with live animals and it is therefore not possible to make longer stops for photography
  • On all trips, at all times an experienced and armed guide will be around to protect you from polar bears. At Green Dog, safety is our number one priority.

•22 days prior to arrival give a full refund
•8-21 days prior to arrival gives a 50% refund
•0-7 days prior to departure gives no refund

Svalbard is beautiful, but also unpredictable. For your safety, our guides may need to move activities to another day or replace them with a different trip if conditions do not allow the original plan.
In rare cases, if the weather makes it impossible to run an activity at all, it may be cancelled. Should this happen, you will of course receive a full refund for the affected trip.
Your safety and comfort always come first, and we’ll do our best to make sure you still have a memorable experience.
