A scenic hike combined with a visit to the Global Seed Vault
We begin with a short but rewarding hike up the mountainside above Blomsterdalen, or “Flower Valley” in Norwegian. The trail has some steeper sections, and we typically gain around 300 meters in elevation, depending on how far we go. Along the way, we stop a few times to take in the view overlooking Adventfjorden. On clear days, we can see all the way to Isfjorden and its glaciers in the distance. We may continue along the ridge, though the top section can feel exposed to some. Along the route, you will also learn more about the rich history of coal mining on Svalbard, and you will see the entrance to the old Coal Mine 3 – a visible reminder of the town’s industrial heritage.
After the hike, we drive to the Global Seed Vault, located at the base of the mountain. While the Vault itself is closed to the public, its entrance building is a striking sight – blending into the landscape in summer and glowing with its unique light installation during winter.
Since the Vault lies outside Longyearbyen’s safety zone, visiting with a guide is the safest and most informative way to experience this unique site. This is a great half-day adventure – perfect if you have a free morning. Hot drinks and cookies are included.
Physical Requirements Suitable for those with average physical fitness. Moderately demanding hike in uneven terrain, with up to 350 meters total elevation gain.

Svalbard is beautiful, but also unpredictable. For your safety, our guides may need to move activities to another day or replace them with a different trip if conditions do not allow the original plan. In rare cases, if the weather makes it impossible to run an activity at all, it may be cancelled. Should this happen, you will of course receive a full refund for the affected trip. Your safety and comfort always come first, and we’ll do our best to make sure you still have a memorable experience.
On this special evening tour, we ride our snowmobiles into the wilderness to experience this light at its most magical: when the sun hangs just above the horizon, casting soft, endless shadows over the snow.
This is our longest hike during the winter season; a full-day adventure that takes you to the summit of Trollsteinen and into a glacier ice cave on the way back down.
Ready to challenge yourself and experience the most breathtaking view? This is the perfect trip for those who want to push their limits in Svalbard’s wild landscapes!
