Dinner Cruise in the Sunset with Hurtigruten Svalbard

On this evening tour, we sail out on Isfjorden and cruise along the never-ending mountain landscapes. In addition to enjoying a delicious dinner in majestic surroundings, there are good chances that you will spot some wildlife. With some luck we might see a whale or two – and with some extra luck, white-beaked dolphins!

You will travel with the hybrid electric catamaran MS Bard. The engine and propellers are specially designed to minimise the noise and vibration. This not only takes you closer to nature; More importantly, the surrounding wildlife is less disturbed by our presence.

During the cruise you will get served a three course dinner. The dinner is served inside, where you have a fantastic view through massive panoramic windows. Throughout the tour you are free to move on several outdoor decks as well, where you also can find comfortable seating areas

2-hr Sightseeing around town

We drive around Longyearbyen, into Adventdalen and up towards the Global Seed Vault. The guide focuses on what we see and will, in communication with the guests, answer questions, as well as tell about Longyearbyen’s history, from the humble beginnings of the mining era to today’s modern society.

  • There will be stops along the way for photography
  • The trip takes around two hours

A visit to the Coal Mine

Coal mine 3 visit 1

Our town, Longyearbyen, would most likely not exist if it wasn’t for the American, John Munro Longyear, who travelled to Svalbard in the early 1900s and a few years later opened Gruve 1 [Mine 1]. Today, you can join us on a tour in Gruve 3 [Mine 3] as we go back in time.

Up at Gruve 3 you will walk through the facilities where the machinery and equipment were left behind when production stopped.

The tour culminates by walking into a main tunnel that was excavated in the 1970s. We promise an exciting tour which will give you a taste of the old days in Longyearbyen as well as an insight into the future of coal mining on Svalbard.
