Icebreaker – Paddling Along Glacier Fronts

Kayaking in front of an active glacier is one of the most unforgettable ways to experience Svalbard. Surrounded by icebergs, the massive wall of Sveabreen glacier rises above as you glide silently through the icy water — a rare and humbling perspective.
This day trip is guided by professional instructors and includes full gear, transfers, and a warm lunch on the return journey.
No previous kayaking experience is required!

What You’ll Experience
Paddle Through Glacial Ice
From the beach, we launch our sturdy double kayaks into the bay in front of Sveabreen. Here, we paddle calmly among floating ice, getting close to the glacier front and immersing ourselves in the serenity of the Arctic seascape. With a bit of luck, we may witness the glacier calving — a powerful and dramatic natural event.

Wild Surroundings and Quiet Wildlife
The Sveabreen area is rich in contrasts: fragile Arctic flora clings to the rocky peninsula nearby, birds feed and nest overhead, and mammals like seals may be spotted resting on the ice. This is a prime location for nature lovers, photographers, and anyone seeking silence and spectacle.

Transfer by RIB & Lunch on the Return
Our journey begins with hotel pickup and equipment fitting at our headquarters. Once ready, we travel by closed, heated RIB boat to the north side of Isfjorden. After paddling, we return to the boat where a hearty warm lunch is served during the cruise back to Longyearbyen.
