Ice Cave Challenge Glacier hike and climbing in an ice cave 3

Ice Cave Challenge: Sledge and Ice Climbing

with Svalbard Wildlife Expeditions

Are you fit and sporty?

Where the others stop, we keep exploring.

We are happy to offer you the chance to explore the ice cave within the glacier in a different way.

By using ropes, crampons and climbing gear we explore this magical frozen world further deep into the glacier.

The ice caves on Svalbard are long melt water channels from the glaciers during the summer.

When these freeze during the winter it opens up a whole different world inside the glacier with hall’s, frozen waterfalls, tight passages and ice crystals.

We will reach the cave rapidly with the help of a SLUFFE (sledge transported by a snowmobile) in order to maximise the time we can spend inside the cave and also to reduce the pollution, we are going to use only 1 engine.

Once inside the melt water channel, you will feel like time comes to a halt, and without any rush we will explore all channels and look at the different crystals, tunnels and formations that the nature built up for the one willing to explore.
